2023 Daren M Hidalgo Scholarship
The Daren M. Hidalgo Memorial Fund seeks to assist Dallastown High School seniors who have strength of character, a strong academic record, commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, and a desire to contribute to society. AMOUNT: The scholarship in the amount of $5,000 for tuition and books will be paid out as a lump sum award. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The eligibility criteria for the Daren M. Hidalgo Scholarship are as follows: Enrolled full time as a high school senior progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2023, with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation. A strong commitment to pursuing and completing a post-secondary program at an accredited institution. Involvement in co-curricular and community service activities. Past and continued good behavior, both in and out of school. United States citizenship. APPLICATION PROCEDURES: To apply for the Daren M. Hidalgo Scholarship all documentation must be postmarked or emailed by March 24, 2023. Students must submit the 2023 DMH Scholarship Application. Be as complete as possible while filling out this application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Forms must be typed or neatly printed. Students must submit their official high school transcript. Students must submit two recommendation letters from either a teacher, coach, principal. guidance counselor, or employer. We had another great group of Dallastown Area High School (DAHS) students that applied for the 2022 Daren M. Hidalgo Scholarship. The memorial scholarship award committee decided to provide a scholarship to both Michaela Long and Kaden Kashner. Michaela was a student council representative all four years at Dallastown Area High School and elected Class President during her senior year. She participated in numerous school activities supporting the community to include the Mini-Thon which assists families with pediatric cancer. She was also active with the school Interact Club and the Health STAT Club. Michaela was a teacher at B*Dazzled Dance Studios and a youth coach of the On-Core Competition Dance Team This fall she will be pursuing a Psychology degree at Virginia Tech. Kaden Kashner played varsity soccer and coached a girls U12 soccer team. He has written hundreds of letters to servicemembers overseas as part of Operation Gratitude. Kaden will be pursuing a degree in Business Management at the University of Pittsburgh. Kaden and Michaela are the thirteenth and fourteenth recipients of the $5,000 Daren M. Hidalgo Scholarship. American Legion Riders, Post 605, Dallastown, PA completed the Fallen Heroes Ride on Saturday, June 5, 2021. It was a beautiful day for a ride which started at ALR Post 605 in Dallastown, PA. The event drew over 150 bikes and went off flawlessly. The ride honored, U.S. Army 1LT Daren Hidalgo, West Point Class of 2009, who was killed in the line of duty on February 20th, 2011 while serving in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, U.S. Marine Corps SGT Christopher Wrinkle, who was killed in the line of duty on July 31st, 2011 while serving in Herat Province, Afghanistan, U.S. Marine Corps SSG Tosca, K-9 Military War Dog, who was killed in the line of duty on July 31st, 2011 while serving in Herat Province, Afghanistan, U.S. Marine Corps SSGT Benjamin Hines, who was killed on April 8th, 2019 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan, and ALL of our Fallen Heroes from the Greater York County, Pennsylvania area. Read More2021 Daren M. Hidalgo Memorial Scholarship Award
Due to COVID 19 we opened up the 2021 Daren M. Hidalgo Memorial Scholarship to all Dallastown Area High School (DAHS) seniors. We received applications from over 25 well qualified students. The memorial scholarship award committee decided to provide a scholarship to both Ryan Klutz and Lauren Garcia. Ryan Klutz played lacrosse, and football. He was a member of the National Honor Society from ninth through twelfth grade. Ryan will be pursuing a degree in computer engineering at Virginia Tech. Lauren Garcia participated in numerous school activities supporting the community. She was active with the Big Buddy Little Buddy Program, served as President of the Health STAT Club, and was engaged with the school Interact Club. Lauren was an active volunteer at the Country Meadows Retirement Community of Leader Heights. This fall she will be pursuing a degree in Applied Health Sciences at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg. Ryan and Lauren are the eleventh and twelfth recipients of the $5,000 Daren M.
