I think about Daren every day. He was a much stronger man than I was, and I know he fought as hard as he did everything else in his life. Someone was asking me about the war the other day. I told them a little bit about it from what I’d seen, and then I said that I thought the weirdest thing about it is that so few people are actually there doing it every day, and how few families truly know what it is like to have a loved one involved in it. Then I told them about your family and what all of you have done for this country. I cannot express enough my enormous admiration and thanks that there are families like the Hidalgos who live the way you do and raise the children you have raised. I hope that as a father I can raise sons who want to follow in my footsteps the way yours have. I tell people about Daren Hidalgo because I wish I could be the same man and officer he was, and I want everyone to know there are families like the Hidalgos out there. I’m praying for you guys constantly, as are so many others.
